Self-mastery Development

Self-mastery Development – Creating Leaders

Self-mastery development forms an important of leadership training courses and relates to how well a person knows themselves and how well they are able to use their strengths and their weaknesses to their advantage. The process begins with an introspective look at what a specific person feels are their strengths and weakness. Once these have been identified, each strength or weakness is scrutinised to ensure that they have the characteristics that define them as either a strength or a weakness.

There are four categories that need to be looked at in self-mastery development:

  1. The Physical – This relates to health and wellbeing and the self image that a person has created.
  2. The Mental – The mental part of the programme focuses on our internal dialogue – how we think about ourselves, our surroundings and how our thought processes impact our environment and the way in which people treat us.
  3. The Emotional – There are two aspects that need to be addressed on the emotional level of self-mastery development. The first is to assess the current level of emotional maturity of an individual and identify any weaknesses. The second aspect focuses on what stresses a person out, how a person reacts to that stress and what can be done to provide a more positive approach to these stress indicators.
  4. The Spiritual – Spirituality is important in everyone’s live and does not relate in any way to religion. It simply emphasises what your core values, morals and ethics are and how you live your life in accordance with these spiritual characteristics. It can also relate to the meaning that you give to your life and the overall sense of happiness that life brings to you.

When all these four elements of the self are brought together in harmony an individual will experience a more balanced outlook on life, a sense of well being and be better able to cope with life. These self-mastery development techniques are all characteristics that we look for and see in people who are successful and happy in their own lives.

It follows that people who have success and happiness find themselves often being chosen as natural leaders by their peers. And what this means to you is that if you are able to apply self-mastery development in your life you too will be able to experience the success that you see in the leaders with whom you come into contact with every day.
