Leadership Training
Why Take Part In Leadership Training?
In every organisation there are levels of experience. During the course of a professional career employees are expected to grow their skill sets, by way of courses such as leadership training, so that when they are ready to ascend to the next level within the organisation the transition is seamless. The reality, however, is somewhat different. Each of us carries baggage, either emotional or professional throughout out our careers which may cause us to perform in a substandard manner in some business situations.
This kind baggage, often emotional, may cause the employee problems in specific situations, such as when working in groups or when making presentations to large groups of senior management. In cases such as this leadership training can be invaluable in correcting any problems. In fact it should be a business rule of thumb that all employees who are on a leadership track should undergo some form of leadership training in order to avoid potential problems in the future.
Problems can arise from the most unexpected sources. An inability to address large groups of people can have its roots in childhood experiences, as can many other problems that plague even the most successful business people. Common issues include an inability to work effectively as part of a team, inability to cope with exceptionally tight deadlines and a lack of verbal communication skills. Communication issues can be especially challenging in South Africa with its wide variety of cultures and social strata.
Most, if not all senior management can benefit from some form of leadership training. It is a rare leader indeed who possesses every attribute required to steer a company to success year after year in an ever fluid business environment such as that which is today prevalent the world over. It is a fact of business life that we are competing in a global market and in this market any weakness will be ruthlessly exploited, hence the need for leadership training.
