Understand Your Thinking Style And That Of Others
One of the ways to ensure that you always communicate clearly and don’t encounter unnecessary confrontations in both your personal and work life is to understand the thinking style of those around you. In many instances it is important to try and understand someone’s way of thinking rather than to be understood yourself. The logic behind this is that the more you understand someone else, the easier it will be to adapt to their way of doing things. This will go a long way to working together effectively as a team or leading a team to ultimate success.
There are a number of different thinking styles to be considered when looking to better communicate with others. The following are general styles that have been identified:
- Creative thinkers – people who think in this way usually speculate and are fairly argumentative in their thought process. It is ideal to listen intently to these types of people and to appreciate their speculation.
- Idealistic thinkers – those who think in this way usually have goals and standards that they are trying to live up to. They usually weigh up the differences between what you want and what is right in terms of these goals and standards.
- Analysts – these types of thinkers analyse and calculate situations before making decisions. In order to communicate properly with these thinkers you will need to have a plan that is backed up with data and possible outcomes.
- Realistic thinkers – these types of thinkers are fast moving and usually make things happen. In order to communicate with these thinkers you will need to present the problem and propose how you will fix it. No frills and fuss is what this type of person is after.
These are just a few of the thinking styles that can be uncovered by being assessed by The EPL Way team. Undergoing assessment and learning how to clearly understand and communicate with others will boost both your personal and corporate life.
